A Friend

What is a true friend? I found some definitions in several dictionaries and encyclopedias. Here are some:

A person you know well and regard with affection and trust

A person who helps out when we are in trouble unlike others who disappear when trouble arises

A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart

A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out

A relationship that exists when persons seek each other out and exhibit a strong mutual regard for each other


These are all very good descriptions of what a friend is and this is all true. And it’s still so much more than that...

This is what it means to me:

A true friend is someone who really cares about you and what you think,

and also makes you think about things twice.

Someone who listens to what you have to say even at 3 am at night,

who just looks at you and knows exactly what you think at this very moment

and knows you inside out.

Someone who is patient and honest with you,

who forgives you

and accepts you the way you are with all of your little weak points

and it is someone you can absolutely rely on,

who is always there when you need help

and someone you treat with great respect no matter where he comes from or what he has done in the past.

I am very blessed because I have friends like that. Not many, only a few. Sometimes I don’t appreciate it like I should and I sometimes forget about this precious and rare treasure called true friendship...
