My friend took a picture of this weird "something". Any idea of what this could be?

  • Knapp daneben is leider auch vorbei, Court. Aber es hat tatsächlich was mit Licht und Wachs zu tun. Nur eben etwas moderner, quasi eine neuzeitliche Kerze...

  • Hi well I really do not know what the picture is but it definitely is unusual. It looks as if it was taken in a balloon shop because you can see a spool of something in the lower right hand corner and then the reflection of a round sphere like object in the orange/red thing itself looks a little like a balloon. The table is covered with a cloth of some kind it looks like, maybe a pink cloth. And then the lights are turned out, which makes me wonder why they are turned out. Obviously they are turned out to see what ever is making the light, because it is not bright enough to light the room by itself and with the lights on it would overpower whatever it is that you are trying to see. But then if this is true then when do we turn out the lights to look a something that produces less light? This brings me back to the balloon and the spool. Someone would need a spool of ribbon to tie to balloons, so those might go together. But where do you get balloons, and dim lights to admire a light of a smaller magnitude? How about a birthday party where the lights are put out or dimmed to see the lighted cake. So what is the weird object? I really have not the slightest idea but I bet it was at a party is I was guessing. I think I made up half of the stuff I just said but it is 10:30 here on Christmas Eve and I am so tired I just felt like rambling on and making stuff up. I am brain-dead and now plan on going to sleep. Merry Christmas.

  • Hey Xzamp,
thank you so much for your weird explanation of this mystical object. It was a lot of fun reading. I really like the idea of spools and balloons. Unfortunately I have to disappoint you. It's not a balloon and not a spool either. It is the inner life of a lava lamp. I know I know, it's pretty simple and not very mysterious. I just like this picture and thought I might share it with you guys.
